We booked a car with Alamo through Expedia, when we arrived too collect it, we were told Expedia has cancelled our booking, we called Expedia, they said it was Alamo. They explained that they could not reinstate the $56 booking but would have to charge $270+ for a smaller car as this booking was now 'last minute' the two ladies were rude, unhelpful and couldn't not care less about us going to the competition. We went to Budget rentals, explained our situation and they gave us a larger car for $55 right then and there. Stay away.
They don't even clean the car
The lady at the counter tried to bully us into buying additional insurance really aggressively - it was a truly terrible experience, we felt threatened. They are charging an AUD 1.4 admin fee for each toll gate use, were not accepting a Swiss licence (for both we had a different experience with other AU rentals - no admin fee, fully OK without the international licence). The staff seemed to be disorganised, they were just passing on who should call back a clearly distressed client and ended up not calling her back at all (imagine when you just had an accident...). They are charging the full access (AUD 4400) even for a small scratch, then decide on their own how much they think it would cost them to fix & give back the rest of the money weeks / months later only (all based on the details given by their employee). At the same time, they are not fixing any damage to the car - ours had a significant dent on the door, the rear bumper was cracked and hanging. There were also dozens of other scratches and dents on the car (which were chargeable according to the lady's previous 'presentation'), all these she refused to put on the damage sheet as she said then that 'we would not charge those' - definitely not consistent or calming after all her threats. The return was smooth and the employee taking the keys was actually nice and friendly - however, due to the initial treatment / stress (really not a nice way to start a vacation in Australia) I would definitely never use them again.
Be careful they cheat the prices and even met you inspect the car before starting driving. This was the worst.
To all those who might wish to hire a rental vehicle from Red Spot Rental or National Car Hire Melbourne Airport, I do not recommend them for following reasons:I booked a vehicle online by looking at vehicle pics, specification, and boot space, by the time I got the vehicle it was changed from 5 door to 3 door for the same price because somehow the vehicle I booked was available then but not at pick up time.I paid for full fuel and returned the vehicle with half tank, yet I was charged for fuel. After couple of email and phone calls the fuel charge was credited back into my account.I paid for a GPS and was given one but I had to ask for a replacement because the one I was given was missing the rubber piece that sticks to the windscreen. As usual there is pre-authorisation of bond for car rentals, but my bond was charged and taken out of my account. Despite all my effort in proving that bond was deducted from my account, Red spot maintains that bond was not deducted, even after I have provided bank statements certified by the Bank where Bank staff confirmed that bond was charged and deducted instead of being frozen. After 30 pages of email communication with customer service and the Melbourne Airport Manager, I have referred this matter officially to my bank to take action or dispute unauthorised charge of money by Red Spot Rental from my card account. And this has happened over 3 weeks, and I do not know when it will end or if I will receive my bond money back. I have previously got rentals from Budget, Avis, and Hertz locally and abroad but I have never gone through such an experience. So possible customers be careful.
