We thoroughly enjoyed out Japanese classes here. Good class size and great content completely relevant to those looking travel or those looking to achieve a certain level of JLPT proficiency. Had a great time and will re-join after our travels this year.
I really enjoyed studying with the JIC Language School. The classes were very interesting, our teacher was so friendly and knowledgeable and a really fun thing to do with friends who study Japanese. I would highly recommend this language school.
Sure there's an immersion technique, but the teacher didn't even speak English so couldn't answer any questions. The beginner classes are not beginner classes. You need at least 6 months of your own study before you would get your money's worth. Sometimes, particularly in the very first class, it is easier to just explain something in English than spend 15 minutes trying to explain something with hand gestures. Students then had to chat amongst themselves during the break to work out what she meant. It is ridiculous to pay for a class and then have students having to teach each other. Reading the reviews on teacher's pay, it seems to be clear why the teacher was so uninterested and under qualified. The staff were polite but clearly did not want to assist and required following up multiple times to resolve issues. There are plenty of other Language Schools in Melbourne, pick another one. Or better yet, watch Pokemon in Japanese, you'll get the equivalent out of it.
I have had a wonderful time studying Japanese at JIC Language School. The staff are very friendly and make the learning environment fun and enjoyable. The classroom sizes are small so you get a very personal learning experience. The lessons are taught mostly in Japanese which is surprisingly not very difficult to follow! The immersion in the language means that you pick it up quite fast and are able to easily form sentences without much thought. There is some homework involved but learning 5-20 words per-week in the beginner courses is not a difficult task at all. I highly recommend this school to anyone wishing to challenge themselves and have a fun time. I personally enjoyed every single lesson I attended. Thank-you JIC and Rieko sensei!
I was a teacher who attends an interview to this school. They offer $15 an hour for the teacher in the first 3 weeks (2 hours work a day) and $18 an hour on/after the 4th week. The reason why they offer $15 for the first three weeks is because the school offer students 3 weeks free lessons( what's the logic? and what to do with the teacher? you don't make money from the student so you don't need to pay the teacher?) Teachers working in casual, there is no tax paying, no supers, they hire international students working under the legal payment in Australia. They say "it's okay if you don't do it, someone else will" "we never pay that much to other teachers" "this is how it works, the market is like this" Teachers be aware! if you say yes to this, that means you acquiesce illegal action, acquiesce to work abuse. Every worker deserves a fair treatment in this country.
