Be forewarned: a lot of the reviews seem to be tailored to whether the reviewer was approved or denied for a visa. This is a consulate, so security is high. You cannot take the majority of your items in with you, except whatever you need for your application. The security staff are as friendly as they can be while maintaining professional distance. If you are polite and respectful, you should have a good experience getting in and out...however that has no bearing on if your application will be approved or not.A personal recommendation: take more documentation than you think you need. It's always better to have extra than be missing the one bit if paper you need for an application.
Needed an emergency passport very last minute, followed the process on the website and everything proceeded exactly as was written and was given a same day appointment. The consulate staff were all so nice and helpful and the process was amazingly quick. Still can't believe how easy it all was and that they sorted things out for me all in the same day, so I could catch my flight home to see my family. Thank you!
As rude as Trump and as unless as Melania.I had a question that I couldn't find my answer on their website. I went there and all I heard was, go to the website, go to the website. Guy kept saying that like a recorded answering machine. I will visit other countries and will spend my money somewhere else.
Security are incredibly rude and unresponsive! Dashed there from the airport to get our daughters passport with student visa as she was delayed at the airport. Explained to security wed had a call from the consulate to pick up urgent passport the day of departure. Instead we were delayed by security who told us that we would have wait til the line was cleared! So much for the urgent service.....scuttled by an overbearing and rude security person who went out of his way to ensure my daughter didnt get on the plane with her visa!
I have tried to contact both the US Consulate General in Melbourne and Canberra via the listed phone numbers, both have pre-recorded message options directing you to use the website or 'email this address..', or options that lead you to think you're going to get to talk to someone, however end up taking you back to the start of the call cycle. It is impossible to actually talk to someone over the phone, which is really unhelpful. I have legitimate time sensitive issues I need to discuss over the phone. Therefore, I am left with no resolve. I will update this review to reflect what happens when calling if the phone service changes to something useful (Current Date: September 27, 2018).
