Visited the Escher exhibition and wasn't disappointed! It's a huge collection of his works across his career, with installations designed for you to interact with. It gave a real insight into the depth of his technical ability over and above the impossible images he's better known for. You rather lose track of time as you work your way through. I recommend choosing a quiet day/time in order to fully appreciate it as there are parts where the flow doesn't quite work and bottlenecks form
One of the must do for any civilized citizen! I have been to few shows here and they have all been 4 plus stars, and very inspiring so far. Melbourne is the arts capital for Australia and it is the number one host there! There is all kind of exhibitions and performance arts going any hr (business hrs) of the day.
We went to the free exhibition area for children, the dedicated area for children is quite interactive, but not well supervised and no clear way of queuing for the interactive screen to do drawing, with some family spending too long on the provided screen doing their painting and others left waiting. The free exhibition itself promotes movement (walking, running, etc) displayed on a screen yet an old couple got grumpy at my 3 yo trying to touch the screen. So a bit of mixes messages were sent to both adults and small children when on the room next door that was what they're encouraged to do. Definitely could be improved. And to be clear there isn't a sign to say not to touch the screen.
Such a beautiful place to immerse yourself in art and new exhibitions. It is food for the brain and worth every moment. It should be on your yearly visit plan. It is nothing but pleasure and admiration from a historical perspective and to enjoy the new. #art
NGV has really upped their game in the last few years. I am visiting on a regular basis the countless exhibition they hold throughout the year. The crowds are usually busy but that's a testament to the quality exhibitions. Recommend planning your visits to avoid crowds - weekdays are good. This gallery really is the heartbeat of Melbourne as a cultural city. Well done! Looking into a membership as I'm there so often.
